Bringing the Spirit of Seva to the Heart of Our Community
At Savona Dental, caring for people extends far beyond the walls of our clinic.
As a family-run practice founded, we’ve always believed that healthcare is about more than treating patients, it’s about supporting the communities we serve and finding meaningful ways to give back.
Recently, we had the privilege of partnering with Dr Gurpreet Gill from SameDayDoctor Canary Wharf and the incredible volunteers at Nishkam SWAT to prepare and distribute essential care packages for people experiencing homelessness in Stratford.
Together, we helped provide practical everyday essentials that many of us take for granted but which can have a meaningful impact on someone’s health, dignity and wellbeing. Being part of such an important community initiative was a privilege, and it reinforced our belief that healthcare extends far beyond the walls of the clinic.
Inspired by the Sikh Principle of Seva
As a Sikh-owned small business, the principle of seva has always been central to how we approach both our work and our lives.
Seva translates to selfless service – giving your time, skills or resources to help others without expecting anything in return.
For us, it’s a value that naturally extends beyond dentistry.
Whether we’re helping a nervous patient feel comfortable during treatment or supporting those facing hardship in our local community, the intention is the same: to care for people with empathy, dignity and respect.
This initiative gave us the opportunity to put those values into action alongside other local organisations who share a similar commitment to helping others.
Working Together with Local Businesses
One of the most rewarding aspects of the day was collaborating with another healthcare professional based here in Canary Wharf.
We generously donated feminine hygiene products to include in every care package, recognising that these are often essential items that are overlooked but can have a significant impact on someone’s wellbeing and dignity.
At Savona Dental, we contributed practical everyday essentials including:
- Toothbrushes
- Toothpaste
- Thick warm socks
Simple items that many of us take for granted can become incredibly valuable for someone living without stable accommodation.
By combining our efforts, we were able to provide bags filled with useful everyday necessities that could offer comfort, support and a reminder that people in the community genuinely care.
Supporting Nishkam SWAT
The bags were distributed in Stratford alongside the volunteers from Nishkam SWAT, a charity that works tirelessly to support vulnerable members of the community through food distribution, outreach programmes and practical assistance.
Meeting the volunteers and witnessing the work they do first hand was incredibly inspiring.
Their dedication, compassion and commitment to helping those most in need demonstrates the importance of community organisations working together to create lasting positive change.
We were honoured to play a small part in supporting their ongoing efforts.
Looking Beyond Oral Health
As healthcare professionals, we’re fortunate to spend every day helping people improve their health and wellbeing.
But health isn’t just about treating illness. Access to basic hygiene products, clean socks, nutritious food and compassionate human interaction all contribute to someone’s physical and emotional wellbeing.
That’s why initiatives like this feel so important. While our expertise lies in dentistry, we believe every healthcare provider has a role to play in supporting wider public health within their community.
It’s something we hope to continue long into the future.

As healthcare professionals, we spend every day looking after patients, but being able to support our local community outside the clinic in partnership with other organisations has been incredibly rewarding.
